Abstract

This project introduced an emerging technology into new usage in a sector, and then piloted and matured it to become operational. It proved its economic viability which led to an explosive growth of the British economy. The project addressed numerous unique obstacles including technical, legal and financial conflicts typical to contemporary transformation projects. The project owner was at the core of the success of the project as his leadership encouraged flexibility in the decision making and agility in the project that changed direction several times as explored alternatives were enacted, or unexpected opportunities were exploited. He also enabled innovation in the project, by setting up a factory which allowed the extensive prototyping and piloting of new technologies, reduction of risks and successful implementation.
