Challenges of Technological Innovation in Nollywood Film Production
Filmmaking is not indigenous to Nigeria. It is essentially a legacy of the colonial masters that governed Nigeria for a century. This chapter examines the significant influences on the rise and growth of movie industry in Nigeria, from its early inceptions to the globally recognised phenomenon it is today. It pays particular attention to the impact of media technology evolution on the emergence of Nollywood. It looks at how traditional dance, drama and theatre formed the substructure and ingredients that were harnessed by the new technology to create the new industry. It examines how Colonial Film Unit and early indigenous artistes and film producers laid the foundation for today’s Nollywood.
