Data Protection in International Trade Law

Abstract
This report describes data protection provisions in international trade agreements, notably in the WTO system and in 75 regional agreements registered in the multilateral system, in which there are provisions on e-commerce. It is possible to find a European Union model that is included in the Union’s agreements with third countries. American agreements present far lower concerns with data protection. Agreements between and among countries of other regions do not show a clear pattern, although Asian rules are more protective of personal data than American ones.
