Abstract

The article presents a subjective assessment of the takeover of steering control by drivers in vehicles with conditional autonomy. The assessment of both the process of taking control and the feeling of safety during autonomous driving was made on the basis of surveys. The questionnaires were supplemented by drivers of a passenger car after the end of the journey. The key role in the case of test scenarios was played by signals of various modalities informing the driver about the need to take control of the vehicle. The research results presented in the article refer to the effectiveness of signals with different modalities in the subjective assessment of the subjects. The obtained results indicate a varied reception of modality among the age groups and people with different levels of driving skills. High safety level assessment during autonomous driving may indicate a high level of confidence in autonomous vehicles, especially for people over 55 and experienced drivers.
