Abstract

  • If the recipient of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is cytomegalovirus (CMV) negative, a CMV negative donor is preferred since this will greatly reduce the risk of subsequent reactivation of CMV and infection with CMV

  • If the recipient is CMV positive, a CMV positive donor is used with the hope that this will result in a faster restoration of anti-CMV immunity, due to the passive transfer of anti-CMV immunity from the donor to the recipient
