The Voice of a Buddhist Chaplain
The aims and objectives of the English Prison Service and the function of its multifaith chaplaincy are described. The latter includes pastoral care and support for prisoners and their families. The requirement for CTC and DBS checks to be carried out for all chaplains and other aspects of prison security teams is described. The central elements of Buddhist teaching, including the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, are set out. The role of Angulimala as the professional body for Buddhist Chaplains is summarised along with a description of how one Buddhist chaplain works to fulfil the role to ensure that the spiritual needs of all registered Buddhists in prison are met.
