Excisional Biopsy of Benign Breast Mass

This chapter describes the surgical procedure for excisional biopsy of a benign breast mass as performed by the following approaches: wire localized excision, simple excision, or ultrasound-guided excision. The text includes an introduction that outlines the indications, risks, alternatives, essential steps, necessary equipment, and variations in technique for the procedure in question. This is followed by a template operative dictation that provides the reader with an operative report, astound in the patient chart or the electronic medical record. A description of the critical portions of the procedure will be described: identifying the mass, labeling the mass, and various techniques to locate the mass.
