The shoulder is a ball and socket joint in which the labrum is the thick piece of cartilage tissue around the edge of the glenoid. The labrum helps to make the shoulder socket deeper, and creating bumper effect and maintaining capsule-labral tension helps to make the shoulder more stable. Since the labrum plays an important role in shoulder stability, understanding and managing labrum injuries in sports is vital. The return to sports activity after a labral injury depends on how many weeks or months it takes the affected shoulder to recover. When the affected shoulder has full range of motion without pain and has regained adequate strength, then it is possible to return to sports. In this chapter, the authors introduce commonly encountered labral injuries and discuss their management.
