Olecranon Fracture: Tension Band Wiring

  • Sunil M. Shahane

The tension band principle is utilized in the fixation of simple two-part transverse fracture of olecranon. This principle works when an eccentrically loaded bone is fractured. This creates a compressive and tensile surface. The tension band wiring implant takes tension and bone takes the compression. The authors describe here the evaluation, fracture fixation technique, post-operative protocol, and tension band principle in a 26-year-old male who sustained a closed transverse two-part fracture of olecranon without distal neurovascular deficit.
