Despite the considerable distance between China and Southern Africa, China was still able to play a critical and sometimes overlooked role in Africa’s liberation war struggles. When looking at Southern Africa today, it is almost impossible to ignore China’s involvement in the various liberation struggles that occurred decades ago. The rubble which represented the remnants of the fierce fighting between the liberation movements and the colonialist may have been replaced by more modern infrastructure, and the excitement and euphoria that swept through the region at the realization of a free Southern Africa may have faded, but China’s mark on the region is still visible to this day and its contribution to the fight for freedom in these African nations cannot be overlooked.
