Use of Bowel for Urethral Reconstruction
Primary urethral reconstruction for the urethra can be achieved using, free grafts, pedicled flaps and anastomotic urethroplasty. This can be particularly challenging in patients with complex long segment posterior urethral strictures with previously failed repairs and significant scarring. Bulbar Urethral necrosis is the ischemic loss of bulbar urethra after multiple failed surgeries. Few patients land up with a very long gap which cannot be bridged by routinely available techniques. In this chapter we discuss the role of urethral substitution using bowel segment.
