Selection of Refractory

This chapter has addressed the issue of selection of refractories. Relation between the wear factors and the characteristics of refractories are shown in a table. The flow of solids and gases through the rotary kiln system is shown in a diagram. The conditions prevailed in the different equipment in the cement kiln and other equipments associated with it are discussed at length. The type and properties of the Refractory, suitable for all the equipments, are discussed with proper reason behind. In the process of selection of the Refractory lining, the comparison of shaped products or the monolithic products is made. The basis of selection of refractories for the different zones of the rotary kiln is discussed in details with special emphasis on the refractories for burning zone. Different types of basic refractories are used in burning zone, and which product is suitable under which prevalent condition in the kiln is discussed. The different shapes, of the refractories, used in the rotary kiln are shown. The different refractories used for lining of the burner pipe are shown.
