Abstract

  • Evaluation for chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is recommended in a child with recurrent abscesses and/or concern for very early-onset inflammatory bowel disease

  • A simple neutrophil count through CBC can be helpful in differentiating between defects in neutrophil number, chemotaxis, or function

  • The index of suspicion for bacterial or fungal infection should be high when evaluating a CGD patient with symptoms of infection
