Ranking of Electroplating Methods Using Grey Relational Analysis (GRA)

Electroplating is the method of depositing a metal coating on the metallic or nonmetallic surface to improve aesthetic appearance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical and/or electrical properties of the metal. There are many electroplating types such as gold plating, silver plating, copper plating etc. are available. Selection of an appropriate electroplating type for the particular application can be considered as a complex multi-criteria decision problem. To demonstrate the decision-making approach, an example of electroplating of ornaments is considered. Seven electroplating types (alternatives) Silver, Gold, Lead, Rhodium, Nickel, Chromium, and Platinum are evaluated on the basis of five criteria Hardness, Thickness, Aesthetic, Adhesion and Cost. Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) is used to evaluate and select the best alternative of the electroplating system for ornament coating.
