When we consider the landmark equation of QED, it contains the waves of charged particles and photons and it describes the springs that give mass to the particles and it includes the interaction between particles and photons. In the previous section we saw that e.g. an electron splits off some of its energy to create a virtual photon. How is that process described in the QED equation? It would require that for instance the mass springs get less strong. But the equation does not describe such a thing at all. It only describes the perfect waves, the springs (that do not alter) and the interaction.
