Abstract

The progressive reappraisal of creative errors in all fields of knowledge, together with the digital revolution and its consequences, have led to the birth and development of new artistic forms. Among these, glitch art, based on the intentional but casual application of distortions to digital images, lends an aesthetic value to an error, offering an unprecedented interpretive key of the artistic heritage. The paper is aimed at contextualising the phenomenon of glitch art and particularly focuses on its declension related to glitch of existing artistic-visual heritage; it also aims at exemplifying it, investigating the functioning and the effects of a few online softwares for the application of glitch to digital images, suggesting a critical interpretation accordingly.
