Abstract

The use of retainers in orthodontics is an accepted and integral phase of treatment. The necessity for retention following comprehensive treatment cannot be disputed and indeed was alluded to by orthodontic pioneers many of whom advocated prolonged or even lifelong retention (Case 2003).
