Abstract

Depending on your job and position, as a research scientist you may be asked to attend lots of meetings, with some meetings being more important than others. In order to get the most out of your meetings, you will need to know in advance as to what you should do. Hence, the goal of this chapter is to give you practical guidelines on what to do when you get a meeting invite, with a particular focus on:
  • How to decide if you need to accept a meeting invite.

  • Considering alternative options, should you decline an invite.

  • The general dos and don’ts on how to behave when you do attend a meeting.

  • How to organise a meeting, e.g. who to invite, and how to draw up a meeting agenda and meeting minutes.
