The Wonder Years
Let us pause a moment to consider the situation of these two geniuses at the point at which they were preparing to revolutionize the world of physics. Both were born in southern German towns, one of Swabian, the other of Bavarian stamp. Both passed through a Bavarian elementary school, one with Catholic religious training, the other with Evangelical instruction. Both learned to play an instrument and were lifelong practicing musicians, one on the violin, the other at the piano. Both attended a humanistic high school in Munich.
