Who Is the Dreamer?
The delineation between dream and reality is a fuzzy one in Twin Peaks: The Return. So are the lines from one dream to another. As a result, we can never quite be sure is what are seeing is real, or in a dream. Yet it is more than that. Because there is not any one dream, we can never tell exactly whose dream we are in at any given moment. But can dreams truly help us to unravel this vast, enigmatic story? While some, such as Jane Douglas and Siobhan Lyons, caution us about using dream theory to analyze David Lynch’s work, dreams nevertheless offer a useful way of unraveling the complex nature of The Return.
