Internationalism Restored, Starting Anew
The chapter provides pen portraits of those younger League staffers who went on to senior positions in the new international order, such as Per Jacobsson and Manuel Peréz-Guerrero who became heads of IMF and UNCTAD respectively, and Martin Hill and Adriaan Pelt who served six secretary-generals of the League and the UN. A list is given of over 50 League staff who went on to work for the UN and the agencies. The chapter continues with a sketch of how a League staffer would summarise working in the UN today in terms of what has changed and what is still the same. It concludes with a description of the rise of Geneva to its pre-eminent position today as a centre for international co-operation and multilateralism.
