Functionalities of Hadoop (or other MapReduce frameworks) and Spark might seem duplicating, particularly from a high-level perspective. This is not surprising, considering that Spark is ultimately a type of MapReduce framework. However, Spark has gone a long way from a standard Hadoop stack of HDFS storage combined with the map and reduce routines.
