Abstract

The incrementality issue in the Wu-Mendel approach for linguistic summarization of datasets is considered in this paper. An incremental version of the Wu-Mendel approach is proposed in order to increase the efficiency of the approach. Since the proposed and implemented modification is the analytical one, obtained in the equation form and derived from the original Wu-Mendel approach itself, the increase in efficiency is not followed by any decrease in the effectiveness of the approach. The proposed modification has been successfully put through the experimental verification process. Moreover, a MATLAB toolbox for linguistic summarization using IF-THEN rules has been designed and presented in this paper. The designed toolbox is made publicly available and allows a user to perform non-incremental/incremental summarization of datasets by applying the Wu-Mendel approach.
