  • Fridtjov IrgensEmail author

In the previous chapters we have almost exclusively used Cartesian coordinate systems in the three-dimensional physical space which we have called a three-dimensional Euclidean space \( E_{3} . \) Vectors and vector algebra were defined in Sect.  1.2, first geometrically, and then through their Cartesian components.
