Abstract

Studies in the past decade have demonstrated evidence on the control of bone remodelling and metabolism by the central nervous system (CNS), by neurotransmitters released by bone cells and their stroma and by release of leptin. As shown by semithin sections and immunohistology of bone biopsies, the skeleton is densely innervated by autonomic and sensory nerve fibres.
