Abstract

This chapter narrates the technicality of in-situ water conservation on a one-hectare farm and its impact on its field ecology. It discusses ‘in-situ water conservation’ through rainwater harvesting on a farmer’s field by the use of micro-locks and trenches. Its arguments are based on an action research project where rainwater was conserved by increasing the water-holding capacity of the field through developing a sustainable agriculture system. The amount of water that could be captured by adapting these techniques has improved soil porosity eight times and the water-holding capacity accordingly. In-situ water conservation techniques played a significant role in developing groundwater by capturing rainfall on the farm.
