Do cancer related pain problems exist in France ?
Conference paper
Abstract
It has already been shown that 70 % of patients with advanced cancer suffer significant pain (Bonica, 1985). Similarly, surveys have suggested that adequate pain relief can be provided to more than 3/4 ou three quarters patients, if optimal administration of opioids and adjuvant drugs is prescribed (WHO 1986; Ventafridda 1985). In developped countries, little improvement in therapeutic outcome is probably due to a lack of understanding of the use of analgesic drugs and especially morphine and also factors due to patients’ attitudes (Baines 1989; Portenoy R 1993).
