A Trip to Mercury

Abstract

There is no doubt that a manned flight to Mercury is absolutely out of the question at the present time. Quite apart from the hostile conditions on the surface, there is the problem of getting there. It would be vastly more difficult than a journey to Mars, partly because Mercury is much further away and partly because of the increased danger from radiation, which would be bad enough even on a Martian journey but which would be much worse when travelling closer to the Sun.
