Abstract

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is gaining acceptance as a noninvasive treatment for severe aortic stenosis. Understanding the aortic root anatomy is essential for patient selection and optimal procedure result with minimal complications. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) offers comprehensive pre-procedural imaging of the aortic root structures, including the left ventricular outflow tract, aortic annulus, aortic sinuses, sinotubular junction, ascending aorta, coronary ostia height, procedure access route, and the relevant non-cardiac pathology. MDCT is accurate and reproducible allowing optimal per-patient device selection (size and type). Furthermore, MDCT can serve for the diagnosis and follow-up of post-TAVR complications.
