Abstract
Even we do not know how the nervous system reaches its unity, integrates distributed neural activities and creates subjective experience, there is evidence that disruptions in functional connectivity and distribution of information are related to perceptual and cognitive states producing disintegration XE "Disintegration" of the mind and ʻintrapsychicʼ conflict XE "Conflict". These conflicting activation patterns likely create stress-related subjective experiences and produce neural interference, temporal disorganization and disturbed functional integration of distributed neural activities, which in principle might be explained as disturbed ʻneural unityʼ as Freud suggested in his “Project for a scientific psychology”.
