Abstract
This chapter covers the developmental process of the diaphragm as a complex structure formed by multiple embryologic primordia. Following this process, congenital defects and their adult anatomic relations are explained. Surgical approaches to the diaphragm and technical aspects of the treatment of diaphragmatic pathology are discussed.
