On the Localized Vibrations of Non-Bridging Oxygen Atoms in Vitreous Silica
Chapter
Abstract
A structure sensitive band, in the region 900 – 950 cm-1 of the infrared spectrum of vitreous silica, has for some time been thought to be associated with the presence of non-bridging oxygen atoms. In this paper we present supporting theoretical evidence for this idea: we show that the band is probably due to highly localized vibrations of the non-bridging oxygen atoms.
