Supervisory relationships: staff supervision
Abstract
The concept of supervision applied to service users, whatever the approach that is adopted, will still have to take account of the need for some level of restriction, either imposed through legal requirements or the expedience of personal safety for self or others. Initially, staff supervision may often be greeted with scepticism, being seen as a management tactic for checking on people, searching out and penalizing poor performance or applying pressure to increase productivity. However, in general, it is intended as a positive function of the organization, for supporting and developing the individual practitioner by valuing and promoting good practice.
