Control of Gas Transfer in Polymeric Membranes
Chapter
Summary
Correlation between gas permeabilities and intermolecular terms of second moment of broad line NMR, <ΔH2>inter, were measured for rigid polymer such as aromatic polyamides, and flexible polymers such as poly (2,6-dimethy1-1,4-oxyphenylene), poly(methyl methacrylate), and various polystyrene derivatives. A good correlation between gas permeability and <ΔH2>inter was obtained. The results indicated that the intermolecular packing or the polymers evaluated by <ΔH2>inter may control the gas permeability of the glassy polymers.
