Abstract

We are developing methods for rapid clonal propagation by direct somatic embryogenesis or direct multiple shoot formation in situ on immature zygotic emrbyos, with the following aims: a. to minimize culture-induced variation by avoiding cellular destabilization; b. to provide simple, rapid, space-efficient propagation techniques which can be applied as early in the life cycle as possible; c. to develop continuous embryogenic cultures with the potential for mechanized sterile propagation and harvesting.
