Visual Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) in Nondemented Parkinson’s Disease
Abstract
Previous investigations with ERP resorted to the auditory “oddball” paradigm, a task in which the subject discriminates between two different tones. In contrast, demonstration of the high incidence of limited cognitive sensory deficit in PD with neuropsychological methods (Pirrozolo et al., 1982) were focussed mostly on tasks requiring what is called visuo-spatial function ( Boiler, 1984; Brown and Marsden, 1986; Taylor et al., 1986; Ransmayr et al., 1987; Raskin et al., 1990). Observation of a correlation between changes in auditory ERPs and decrease performance in visual and other cognitive tasks, is not surprising however since P3 occurs in a variety of tasks and is therefore considered as modality-nonspecific (for a recent review, see Picton, 1992; Nätäänen, 1992).
