Abstract

HTTP/2 is the latest revision of the venerable protocol that underlies almost all of the world wide web: the HyperText Transfer Protocol, HTTP. Originally developed by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) in 1989, HTTP has been the engine of the web ever since. The dominance of the protocol is so complete that almost everything that most people think of as “the Internet” is in fact part of the world wide web, and so uses HTTP.
