In the previous chapter, a power-series expansion of the transfer characteristics of a stage is obtained from the circuit analysis of the stage using simplified circuit models for the transistors. In order to use a truncated set of first few terms of the power series, a restriction must be made to relatively small input-signal amplitudes, e.g., for the ECP stage, V ₁ V _T ≪ 1.
