In Certain Physiological Stress Conditions on the Problem of Hyperuricemia

Abstract

It is well known that diseases, other than gout, may be associated with elavated serum uric acid levels. Myeloproliferative diseases are the main examples of such a condition. Certain drugs, especially diuretics, are also known to produce hyperuricemia and, eventually, an acute attack of gout. Further-more, attacks of gout have been noted following stress, as, for example, after surgery. In the acute stage of myocardial infarction (MI), hyperuricemia may also be found. There is some discussion about whether this phenomen on is connected with the stress caused by the MI, or is it due to an extensive tissue breakdown.
