Studies on The Carburisation of An Aisi Type 316 Stainless Steel in Liquid Sodium
Chapter
Abstract
One of the well recognised problems in LMFBR sodium circuits is the phenomenon of carbon transfer which takes place across sodium/ steel interface in the direction of decreasing carbon activity. The major concern due to carbon transfer is connected with the integrity of thin walled parts such as fuel cladding, IHX and steam generator tubings, bellows in control rod drive mechanisms and sodium valves etc. This is because of the fact that the property changes are more pronounced in thin walled sections.
