Abstract

The extension of electron atom scattering techniques to molecular targets must face two major complications:
  1. (1)

    the strong anisotropy of electrostatic interactions

     
  2. (2)

    the dynamical coupling with the nuclear motion.

     
The exact description by standard collisional techniques — a close coupling (CC) type one-center expansion with a large number of closely spaced states of the molecule, and a large number of partial waves to describe the motion of the colliding electron in the laboratory frame (LF) anisotropic molecular field- becomes a prohibitive task as soon as one wants to go beyond the rotational excitation of the lighter homonuclear diatomics.l
