HLA Encoded Genes and Their Associations with Disease
Chapter
Abstract
The relatively recent discovery concerning the situation of the structural loci for three major complement proteins: Factor B, C2 and C4 in the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) gives a new dimension to this complex. The reasons for this association are still not clear but practical use has been made of the close linkage and the resulting linkage disequilibrium with the MHC genes for the exploration of the genetic control of the immune response and of the etiology and pathogeny of some HLA-associated diseases.
