Host/Vector Systems for Actinomycetes and Applications to Strain Development

Abstract
Of the over 3000 known antibiotics, more than 2000 are produced by Actinomycetes. In fact, over 85% of the species which produce antibiotics are Actinomycetes, including Nocardia, Streptosporangium, Micromonospora, Actinoplanes, and Streptomyces [23,32], Table 1 shows how these are divided [3,26].
