Factors Affecting Excretion of Renal Prostaglandins
A Study with Hypertonic Sodium and Glucose Infusions in Normal Female Subjects
Chapter
Abstract
A relationship between renal prostaglandins (PGs) and sodium and water excretion was postulated some time ago, since prostaglandins were found to be natriuretic when administered to humans.1,2 This relationship also seemed to be reinforced by the finding that PGE2 was able to inhibit sodium reabsorption when applied both at a tubular level by microinjection3 and in isolated and perfused renal collecting tubules of rabbits.4
