Developmental Regulation of Enzyme Synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Chapter
Abstract
The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has long been a model organism for studying developmental processes in an eukaryote. The life cycle involves both haploid and diploid cells. These cells undergo spherical vegetative growth or polar growth leading to the formation of a discreet morphological bud early in the mitotic cell cycle. During sporulation in diploid cells, meiosis and ascospore formation leads to haploid cells which may then conjugate to complete the life cycle.
