Modifications of Platelet Functions by Dietary Fats

Abstract

Several epidemiologic studies have shown that coronary heart disease (CHD) was closely related to the saturated fat intake (1, 2). The dietary fats might exert their effect by changing the vessel wall morphology, i. e., by inducing atherosclerosis but also by predisposing for arterial thrombosis, which is most of the time the final occluding event. In addition, mural thrombi can contribute to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques (3, 4).
