Optically pumped far-infrared laser for infrared frequency measurements
Chapter
Abstract
Optically pumped far-infrared (FIR) lasers /1/ are much better suited to infrared frequency measurements than the discharge lasers because: i) The absence of free electrons yields high frequency stability. ii) About 400 laser transitions are available in the 30 um to 2 mm region. iii) Dimensions of these lasers can be made much smaller than those of discharge lasers.
