Computations in Parallel

  • Stanislaw M. Ulam

Abstract

I shall try to elaborate in a few examples, the desideratum of having machines which perform simultaneously and independently on many channels simple arithmetic and logical operations. I want to discuss briefly the advantages of such a system compared to the now prevailing computers which do their work in series. I shall content myself, in this chapter, with a discussion of the uses of such machines without going into technical schemas of their nature and characteristics.
