Receptor Pigments in Light-Induced Behavior of Microorganisms
Chapter
Abstract
One of the most interesting phenomena that have fascinated scientists of many different cultural backgrounds, from biologists to physicists, is the alteration by light of the motile characteristics of many unicellular organisms (Lenci & Colombetti, 1978), known as photomovement or photobehavior. Many different types of photobehaviors are known, and without going into too many details, we will briefly describe some of them, using a terminology accepted by most of the groups working in the field (Diehn et al., 1977).
