Abstract
The 1981 Kashikojima conference marks the 10th year of the Engineering Foundation series of biannual conferences on Enzyme Engineering. The Proceedings of this sixth conference seems like an appropriate place to review the highlights of the first ten years and to answer the often asked question of how this series got started.
